Notification of Re-Survey Dates

Both unannounced and announced (short notice) survey dates will be communicated the same way, by posting the information to your extranet site by about 7:30 a.m.

When you are nearing your next survey, you will need to work with your account executive to review and update your application. At that time, you can choose some "avoid" dates to let us know when you'd prefer we not survey. You can find your account executive’s contact information on your Joint Commission Connect extranet site.

Unannounced Survey Policy

Organizations that have already completed their initial survey can be re-surveyed at any time between 18 and 36 months from their initial survey, with the event usually falling within nine months of the three year anniversary. In accordance with Joint Commission policy, all re-surveys are unannounced although there are exceptions that provide short notice of seven business days prior to the survey.

Short notice will be provided to behavioral health organizations including methadone programs, corrections programs, and foster care agencies, and community-based programs with less than ten staff or an average daily census of less than 100. Short notice cannot be provided for organizations that are a part of a hospital or health system.
