Assess Well-Being

A key organizational strategy to improve worker well-being is to measure it, implement targeted interventions, and then re-measure it. Conducting a baseline assessment can shed light on the potential drivers that contribute to burnout, and provides guidance in selecting comprehensive, organization-level strategies that target these drivers.

Tips & Actionable Strategies

Consider these tips and explore the collection of curated resources, strategies and practices to help you select an assessment tool.

  • Choose a valid and reliable tool for the most accurate measurement of well-being.
  • Choose an assessment tool that fits the intended audience (i.e., clinical, non-clinical).
  • Consider an assessment tool that has national benchmark data with which you can compare your results.
  • Consider the burden for both participants and the organization (i.e., length of assessment, types of questions).
  • Keep in mind that surveys that take less than 10 minutes for an individual to complete tend to have better response rates.
  • Assess burnout at baseline before implementing any interventions to address it.
